KimaCell® EC N50 ethyl cellulose, as a pharmaceutical excipient, mainly has the following applications:
As a hydrophobic material
Often alone or mixed with hydrophilic excipients, it is used as the drug matrix of tablets, capsules, pills and other preparations to prepare sustained-release matrix preparations. It hardly changes during the whole release process of the drug, but is excreted with feces.
As a coating material
As a film coating material, it has the functions of rate limiting, tablet core protection, moisture-proof, light-proof, taste-correcting and fluidity-enhancing.
As a carrier
It can be used as a drug carrier to prepare microspheres or solid dispersions by emulsification-solvent evaporation method, phase coagulation method, solvent method or spray drying method. Contrary to the quick-acting and bioavailability-enhancing effects of solid dispersions, EC has the effect of slowing down drug dissolution.
As an adhesive
The good adhesion performance of EC makes the pharmaceutical preparations using it as a binder have better mechanical properties, and it is not easy to produce fragments and missing corners. And its hydrophobicity also makes high-viscosity EC have obvious performance of retarding drug release when it is used as a binder.
As capsule material
Capsule materials suitable for microcapsules to control the release of water-soluble drugs. The preparation method can adopt phase separation-coagulation method, drying method in oil and so on.
Others
EC is also used in other dosage forms. It has been reported that transdermal formulations of terbutaline or promethazine hydrochloride were prepared using EC as the backbone, and these polymers were found to have suitable rational properties for drug diffusion and skin sensitivity both ex vivo and in vivo and without skin Stimulate. In addition, EC is also used as a blocker and stabilizer.
