 Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether made from natural polymer materials (such as cotton) through alkali treatment and etherification modification. Due to its good physical and chemical properties, biocompatibility and safety, HPMC is widely used in medicine, cosmetics, building materials and food industries. For example, the US FDA classifies it as GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe); the EU includes it in the list of food additives (E464); in China, HPMC is approved for use in many types of food by the "Standard for the Use of Food Additives" (GB 2760). Since it is derived from natural cellulose, non-toxic and harmless and is not absorbed in the body, it poses no safety risk to the human body.

 

4. Future development trends

With the improvement of the food industry's requirements for health, low fat, naturalness, and greenness, HPMC will be more widely used in the food industry.
